Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 8, 2026

1. Introduction

Draughts.io ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you visit or use our website, web app, mobile apps, and online game services available at draughts.io.

2. Information We Collect

2.1. Information You Provide

If you create an account, contact us, or use online multiplayer features, we may collect information you choose to provide, such as:

2.2. Gameplay and Service Data

When you use Draughts.io, we may process service-related information such as:

2.3. Cookies, Local Storage, and Similar Technologies

We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to operate the site and game, remember settings, keep you signed in, measure performance, prevent abuse, and understand how our services are used.

We also use measurement tags and related identifiers or parameters to understand how users find and use the site. Depending on your browser settings and location, these tags may use cookie-based storage or limited measurement signals.

2.4. Analytics and Conversion Measurement Data

We use analytics and conversion measurement technologies, including services provided by Google such as Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads conversion measurement. These services may collect information such as page views, interactions, landing pages, referrers, campaign parameters, approximate location, browser and device details, and conversion events.

Google may collect and process data in accordance with its own policies. You can learn more here:

2.5. Web Advertising Data

Our website and browser game use Nitro, operated by Overwolf, to request, display, measure, secure, and report advertising. Nitro and participating advertising partners may process online identifiers, IP address, approximate location, browser and device information, page and placement context, consent signals, ads viewed, and interactions with ads.

In regions where consent is required, Nitro's IAB-registered Consent Management Platform records and communicates your advertising choices. See Nitro's Privacy Policy for more information.

Email-based ad matching: when you are signed in with an email address whose ownership has been verified by our authentication provider, this feature is enabled by default. We trim and lowercase the verified address and compute a SHA-256 hash inside the Draughts.io app. We send Nitro only the resulting hash with the “SHA-256” encoding label; the email address itself is not sent to Nitro through this feature. The hash is a pseudonymous advertising identifier and should not be treated as anonymous data in every legal context.

Nitro states that it does not store the email supplied through this API and passes the hash to participating third-party identity vendors and bidding partners for personalized ad matching. We do not use an unverified email for this purpose. You may turn this feature off at any time in the web game's Game Settings. Nitro CMP consent choices, Global Privacy Control, and applicable U.S. sale/sharing or targeted-advertising opt-outs override the default-on setting. When such a restriction applies, we do not add the hash to Nitro bidding and clear an identity token previously applied on the page.

2.6. Mobile Advertising Data

Our Android and iOS apps use Appodeal's advertising mediation platform, including advertising services such as Google AdMob and Meta Audience Network, to request and display advertising at natural breaks between games. Depending on your location, consent choices, device settings, and advertising partner configuration, Appodeal and participating advertising partners may process information such as IP address, approximate location, device or advertising identifiers, diagnostics, performance data, ads viewed, and interactions with ads.

We use Appodeal's consent-management functionality, including Google's User Messaging Platform where applicable, to request and respect privacy choices before requesting mobile ads. These providers process advertising data under their own policies. See Appodeal's Privacy Policy, Google's Privacy Policy, and Meta's Privacy Policy for more information.

2.7. Premium Purchases

Apple App Store or Google Play processes payments for Premium. We do not receive your card number or bank account details. We use RevenueCat to validate purchases, restore access, and manage subscriptions and lifetime purchases. RevenueCat processes an internal billing identifier, store product and transaction information, purchase and renewal dates, expiration and refund status, and store-provided price and currency information.

Our server stores verified Premium access, the associated transaction and game-account identifiers, and purchase-event processing status. When you sign in, we link Premium to your game account so you can use it across devices. We use purchase information to provide paid features, prevent fraud, handle support, and understand subscription performance. We do not send purchase history to advertising networks through this integration. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

3.1. Optional Email Newsletter

Draughts.io is the data controller and sender for the optional newsletter. Subscription is not required to create or use an account. The subscription checkbox is off by default, and accepting the Terms of Use does not subscribe you to marketing email.

If you subscribe, we use your email address and may use your username and language to address you and send relevant content. Messages may include draughts.io news, new game modes and updates, tournament information, and special offers. We normally send no more than two newsletter messages per month, although an occasional additional message may be sent for a major tournament or important release.

4. Data Storage and Security

Local storage: Some settings and identifiers are stored on your device through cookies, browser storage, or similar technologies.

Server-side data: Account data, online game state, ratings, and service logs may be stored on our servers or infrastructure providers in order to operate the service.

Security: We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

5. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information in the ordinary course of operating the site. We may share information with third parties only as needed to run, analyze, secure, and monetize the service.

These third parties may include:

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your information, including:

Some U.S. state privacy laws use broad definitions of “sale” or “sharing” that may include disclosures for targeted advertising. Where applicable, the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control above lets you exercise that choice. You may also contact us to request access, correction, or deletion, or to appeal a response to a privacy request.

6.1. California Privacy Notice

This section supplements the rest of this Privacy Policy for California residents. It describes our practices during the preceding 12 months and applies to the extent the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (collectively, the “CCPA”), applies to us.

Categories collected. Depending on how you use the service, we may collect identifiers (such as account ID, username, email address, a SHA-256 hash derived from a verified email, IP address, and online identifiers); internet or other electronic network activity (such as page views, ad interactions, gameplay, diagnostics, and browser or device information); approximate geolocation derived from an IP address; commercial information relating to subscriptions or advertising interactions; and inferences such as preferences derived from gameplay and settings. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.

Sources and purposes. We collect this information directly from you, automatically from your browser or device, and from the service providers and advertising, analytics, authentication, and infrastructure partners identified in this Policy. We use it for the business and commercial purposes described in Section 3, including providing and securing the service, maintaining accounts and preferences, debugging, analytics, fraud prevention, advertising, and legal compliance.

Disclosure, sale, and sharing. During the preceding 12 months, we may have disclosed each category described above to the service providers and other recipients described in Section 5 for the stated business purposes. We do not sell personal information for money. However, California law may treat the disclosure of identifiers, internet activity, approximate location, and related advertising data to advertising partners for interest-based advertising as a “sale” or “sharing.” You may opt out of that activity using the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control above. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.

Your California rights. Subject to legal exceptions, you may request to know or access the personal information we collect, use, disclose, sell, or share; request deletion; request correction of inaccurate information; opt out of sale or sharing; and limit certain uses of sensitive personal information. You also have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights.

To opt out of advertising sale or sharing, use the control above; no account is required. To submit another CCPA request, email support@draughts.io with “California Privacy Request” in the subject. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify and fulfill the request and will use it only for that purpose. An authorized agent may submit a request for you, but we may require proof of authorization and may verify your identity directly. Where applicable, we also honor recognized browser-based opt-out preference signals. You may use these methods without being charged or creating an account.

Withdrawing newsletter consent is free and does not affect your account or any processing that took place before withdrawal. To access, correct, delete, or change newsletter data, contact support@draughts.io. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority, including the CNIL in France.

7. Consent and Regional Notices

If you are located in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, or another jurisdiction with consent requirements, Nitro's CMP may ask for your consent to use cookies and personal data for web advertising, analytics, and conversion measurement. Native Android and iOS apps use Appodeal's consent-management functionality, including Google's consent tools where applicable, for mobile advertising.

Where consent is legally required for personalized advertising, we rely on the permission communicated through Nitro's CMP before supplying the verified-email hash. Standard TCF permissions for storage/access, advertising profile creation and personalized-ad selection, and Nitro's vendor consent must allow the activity. Any site-specific Nitro CMP disclosure configured for email-based matching must also be accepted. Acceptance of the Terms of Use alone is not used as a substitute for this consent. In jurisdictions that permit an opt-out model, the feature is on by default but remains subject to the controls described in Section 6.

Where required, analytics, advertising, or conversion measurement storage may remain restricted until you make a choice. If consent is denied, certain analytics, advertising, or conversion measurement features may be limited or disabled. Where permitted by applicable law and our configuration, limited cookieless measurement signals may still be processed to measure traffic, model conversions, and detect invalid traffic.

Mailrelay (CPC Servicios Informáticos Aplicados a Nuevas Tecnologías S.L.) is based in Spain. Its privacy policy states that data is stored in data centers located in Europe. More information is available in Mailrelay’s Privacy Policy.

8. Children's Privacy

Draughts.io is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will review the request.

We do not knowingly use email-based ad matching for a person known to us to be under 16 where opt-in is legally required, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.

9. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain accounts, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and protect the site from abuse. Retention periods vary depending on the type of data and the purpose for which it was collected.

The email-based ad-matching choice is stored locally in the browser. Our web integration does not persist the derived SHA-256 hash in browser storage; it is recomputed from the verified account email when needed and held only for the current page session. Disabling the feature or signing out clears the active Nitro identity token. Advertising recipients may retain data already processed under their own policies and applicable consent or opt-out signals.

Newsletter contact data is kept while you remain subscribed. We review inactive newsletter records after three years without meaningful contact. Consent evidence is kept for as long as reasonably necessary to demonstrate compliance. After you unsubscribe, we stop campaigns and retain only the minimum suppression record (normally the email address and unsubscribe date) for at least three years so the address is not added again by mistake.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the "Last updated" date.
